Arabian Gulf League hosts mid-season Match Officials Workshop

The Pro League Committee held a mid-season workshop for its Match Officials at the Al Raha Beach Hotel in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday 14th January. Having reached the halfway stage of the season, the workshop served as a refresher to the main Match Officials workshop held back in August, as well as offering updates on new procedures, initiatives and Quality Control Points aimed at developing and improving the standard of match organisation in the Arabian Gulf League and its related competitions.

Colin Smith, CEO of the Pro League Committee, opened the workshop by welcoming all attendees and stressing the integral part played by all Match Officials within the PLC family, telling the congregation: ""All our Match Officials are an important extension of our team on the ground on match days, where we are not only aiming to see high quality competition on the pitch but also to deliver an all-round positive experience off the pitch too. We are dealing with sport, it's competitive, it's entertainment, we work alongside with the clubs to make sure fans have a good time at the stadium from start to finish." Smith also encouraged all Match Officials to share their invaluable feedback from their unique on-the-ground positions to continue in facilitating the development and improvement of all match day operational aspects.

Michelle Chai, PLC Technical & Competitions Director, then led an interactive session to engage all Match Officials and to reinforce their responsibilities as ambassador of the PLC on match days. She also explained in detail the new Venue Manager initiative, which will see all fourteen clubs employ one Emirati in a full-time Venue Manager position subsidised by the PLC, aiming to improve in-stadium facilities and the overall match day experience. Mohammed Basel, PLC's Senior Technical Executive, familiarized the Match Officials with the new Quality Control Points being introduced in relation to stadium safety and cleanliness, as well as food & beverage provision in stadia, and also highlighted some best practices relating to access control.
