Arabian Gulf League Match Day 15 Review

Al Shaab 2-0 Al Nasr

Al Shaab’s January transfer window overhaul paid immediate dividends as they registered only their third League win of the season; an impressive 2-0 victory over Al Nasr at the Khaled bin Mohamed Stadium in Sharjah. Four new signings made their debuts for Al Shaab in the Round 15 fixture but it was old boys Badr Al Noubi and Michael Laurent N’dri who found the net to take all three points against the ten men of Al Nasr. Al Shaab’s battle against relegation is now well and truly on as they increase their points total to 10 and move temporarily out of the danger zone, whilst Al Nasr remain on 23 points.

Al Dhafra 0-0 Bani Yas

Dhafra and Bani Yas played out a 0-0 stalemate at the Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Stadium in Round 15 of the Arabian Gulf League; a repeat of the score when the two sides met earlier in the League season. The draw means Al Dhafra now have 23 points whilst Bani Yas have 21.

Dubai 1-1 Emirates

Dubai were held to a 1-1 draw at home against fellow strugglers Emirates in Round 15 of the Arabian Gulf League. The share of the spoils means neither side makes much progress in the fight against relegation, with Dubai now on 9 points and Emirates on 12.

Al Wahda 0-0 Al Ahli

Table-toppers Al Ahli were held to a gritty 0-0 draw by Al Wahda at the Al Nahyan Stadium in Round 15 of the Arabian Gulf League. A fiercely contested match between two sets of committed players provided plenty of entertainment, if no goals. Al Ahli stay at the summit with 33 points, whilst Al Wahda now have 22 points as they look to push on in the second half of the season.

Al Shabab 2-0 Sharjah

Two first-half goals from Carlos Villanueva made all the difference as Al Shabab defeated Sharjah 2-0 at the Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium in Round 15 of the Arabian Gulf League. The Chilean’s strikes give Al Shabab 30 points in 2nd place – just three behind League leaders Al Ahli – whilst Sharjah remain on 26 points.

Ajman 0-0 Al Ain

It was a story of missed chances as Al Ain dropped points in the Arabian Gulf League yet again, drawing 0-0 at Ajman’s Rashid bin Saeed Stadium in Round 15. A whole host of opportunities went begging for the visitors whilst Ajman missed a number of sitters themselves, in the end earning a hard-fought draw to add a point to their tally in the battle against the drop. Al Ain now have 23 points and remain 10 off the pace at the top, whilst Ajman have 9 points but remain bottom of the table.

Al Wasl 1-2 Al Jazira

Al Jazira edged Al Wasl 2-1 in an entertaining encounter at the Zabeel Stadium in Dubai to conclude Round 15 of the Arabian Gulf League. With all goals coming in the second half, Hyungmin Shin and Ali Mabkhout had given the visitors a 2-0 lead before substitute Andre Senghor pulled a consolation goal back for the hosts. The result sees Al Jazira 3rd in the table with 29 points – just four behind leaders Al Ahli – whilst Al Wasl remain on 17 points.
